Optical storage: Technology and applications
Abstract
Optical storage technology is characterized by the combination of high storage density, high data rate, fast access time, high reliability and media removability. The paper discusses innovations in component technologies that are leading to rapid advances in the optical storage technology. The appearance of improved storage management software will continue to extend the application potential of optical disk libraries beyond the more traditional backup and archival functions.
