GaAIAs diode laser spectroscopy of R' aggregate color centers In polycrystalline LiF hosts

Abstract

The spectroscopic properties of aggregate color centers in alkali halide hosts are of interest both for basic studies of the host crystal environment1 and for application as a recording medium for frequency domain optical memories based upon spectral hole burning.2 For memory applications, vacuum de- posited polycrystalline alkali halide hosts are of interest, since large-area thin film samples can be produced. Aside from a few preliminary results obtained at visible wavelengths,3 the effects of polycrystalline hosts on color center spectroscopic properties are largely unknown and are of basic scientific interest. © 1983 Optical Society of America
