FREQUENCY DOMAIN OPTICAL STORAGE: THE IMPORTANCE OF PHOTON-GATED MATERIALS.
Abstract
Recent discoveries of photon-gated spectral hole-burning materials showing nondestructive reading and fast burning in small laser spots are reviewed. Before frequency-domain optical storage becomes practical, improvements such as narrower hole widths, improved reversibility, and operation at semiconductor diode laser wavelengths are necessary.
