FeRh/FePt anti-ferromagnet/ferromagnet exchange spring media for thermally assisted magnetic recording

FeRh/FePt anti-ferromagnet/ferromagnetic exchange spring media were presented for thermally assisted magnetic recording. The additional moment of the ferromagnetic FeRh helped magnetization reversal of high anisotropy FePt layer at temperatures below its Curie temperature. A series of such bilayer samples were grown by magnetron sputtering from element targets onto amorphous and single-crystalline MgO and sapphire substrates.
