Fabrication of freely patterned aligned nematic LC cell by using photoalignment
Abstract
We demonstrate fabrication of a freely patterned aligned liquid crystal (LC) cell by using photoalignment. A combination of a sample stage and a UV laser consists of an Ar+ laser and a nonlinear optical crystal was used to expose any points on a substrate to any direction of polarized UV light. Fabrication method of the cells, and the variety of the patterned aligned LC cells are described. An application of this type of cell and the resolution of the fabricated LC alignment pattern by using this technique are also discussed.
