DATA DRIVEN AUTOMATION.

Abstract

Data Driven Automation has existed for a long time in the form of NC machines that perform various fabrication operations. Intelligent robots have the potential for data driven assembly. This paper contrasts these two forms of automation. Issues to be addresed include the concept of a generic robot application, the requirements for linking computer aided design data to automated tools, device or process independence and the roles of languages such as APT and IBM's robot language AML. In addition, AUTOCABLEMATION, an example of a data driven robot application, is discussed in detail.
