CONFIGURATION OF MONOCOMPONENT TONER IN MAGNETIC FIELDS.

Abstract

In an effort to obtain an improved understanding of the physics of monocomponent toner on the developer/cleaner magnetic roll, we have undertaken a study to model the static configuration of monocomponent toner in a divergent magnetic field, as is found in the hardware. Although incapable of reproducing in detail our experimental results on the static configuration of toner, the model correctly demonstrates the formation of the trees and the dead layer. For very low effective toner thicknesses, only trees are formed. As more toner is added, a dead layer is formed, consistent with experiment.
