Challenges and opportunities in search and retrieval for media databases

Abstract

It is obvious that technological advances continue their rapid progress and are making media databases (databases containing not only text and numbers but maps, graphs, images, audio and video) quite feasible. We outline requirements for search and retrieval in media databases and address research challenges needed to solve this challenging problem.
