Ceramics in microelectronics
Abstract
Ceramics have been playing a key role in almost all aspects of the information processing industry. This industry utilizes silicon and ceramic substrates for data processing, magnetic ceramics for storing information, ceramic optical fibers for transferring information, transparent ceramics and glasses together with appropriate sealing materials for displaying information and ceramic metal composites for printing information. This review briefly discusses the evolution, state-of-the-art and future challenges in the use of amorphous and crystalline ceramics for each of these applications.
