A study of the residual vibration during the seek-settling period for hard disk drives
Abstract
In order to reduce the residual vibration during the seek-settling time due to the mechanical resonance of the head-actuator system, we have studied the effectiveness of a notch filter to control the mechanical resonance near the Nyquist frequency. Our results slow that the notch filter cannot completely reduce the residual vibration, because it essentially works only for the static periods, not during the transient periods like the seek-settling period.
