Alan Hoffman, the first editor-in-chief of the Linear Algebra and its Applications (LAA), speaking at the occasion of 40th anniversary of the journal 'Linear Algebra and its Applications (LAA)', considered great subject and excellent leadership as the two principle reasons behind the success of the journal. He gave special attention to the contribution of Hans Schneider, who take over the charge, when he got retired. Hans kept the journal flowing for seven years until joined by Richard Brualdi. Alan owed special thanks to the Hans for various personal and professional courtesies during their companionship.
