A FRAMEWORK FOR SUGARCANE BIOMASS ESTIMATION BY CAPTURING GROWTH DYNAMICS USING SAR AND OPTICAL IMAGERIES
Abstract
As the sense of urgency regarding climate change continues to mount with growing regulatory pressure across the globe, natural carbon sequestration is becoming increasingly cru- cial as climate mitigation measure. Agriculture is one the most promising natural way of carbon sequestration and farm- ers can generate additional income by selling carbon credits. Therefore, accurate estimation of crop biomass is crucial. In this paper, we proposed a novel framework to accurately mea- sure the crop biomass by capturing ecological, environmental and phenological information derived from SAR and optical imageries. We have evaluated the efficacy of the approach on a set of sugarcane farms in South-East Asia and demonstrated an accuracy of more than 85%.
