Unsupervised image segmentation using the minimum description length principle

Abstract

We have developed an MDL-based objective function for multi-band image segmentation and an efficient segmentation algorithm that performs a suboptimal minimization of this criterion. We have demonstrated the performance of this algorithm on both synthetic and real images. The performance of the algorithm was quite good.
