Uniaxial pressure device for neutron scattering experiments

View publication

Abstract

The construction of a uniaxial pressure device for neutron scattering experiments is described. The stress is generated in a hydraulic cylinder and transmitted through a plunger onto the single-crystal sample mounted in a cryostat. The assembly allows the application of a variable force up to 104 N at temperatures between 2 and 300 K. The apparatus has been successfully used to determine the (p, T) phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic compound CeSb. © 1986.
