Tiered Data Storage: NAND, HDD, and Tape Storage

Abstract

Magnetic tape, hard disk drives, and NAND flash memory form the tiered storage, also known as the storage pyramid. The recent progress and future outlook of these technologies will be reviewed, along with the changing landscape of how these three technologies work together. Some of the challenges of alternative storage technologies, such as optical data storage and DNA data storage, are briefly discussed.
