The relevance of fine structure constant in today's electronics is discussed. The fine structure constant confirms that the magnetic quantity is of the order 103 times the electrostatic one and rationalizes the difference between the two single-quantum device technologies. The constant also has an effect on electrical transport phenomena in nanostructures.
