The effect of subsurface oxygen on the orientation of molecular oxygen on Ag(110)
Abstract
The effect of subsurface oxygen on the orientation of molecular oxygen chemisorbed on Ag(110) was investigated using near-edge adsorption fine structure (NEXAFS) analysis. The OO bond is aligned parallel to the surface, along the [11̄0] azimuth with and without subsurface oxygen. Both the σ* (532.6 eV) and out-of-plane π* (530.2 eV) resonances were observed, indicating that the out-of-plane π* orbital is incompletely filled in the adsorbed state. © 1995.
