Techniques for the introduction of biaxial strain in free standing films and the use of film compliance measurements for the determination of stress in biaxially strained films
Abstract
Two techniques have been developed for the introduction of biaxial strain in free standing films. The first method uses a film attached to an 8-segmented ring. The second method uses the 'double ring' technique. With either method the folm can be observed whole the strain is being applied. To accurately determine the strain one can place markers on the film and measure the displacement when the strain is applied.
