Scalability of optical circuit switches using 2×2 Mach-Zehnder switches as a building block

Abstract

Crosstalk may limit the Mach-Zehnder switch's scalability and bandwidth, particularly when used in low-margin links. We show that crosstalk better than -35dB, control of noise contributors and larger power budget may be required.
