Planning Domino email servers using notes transactions

Abstract

Planning of Domino email servers is commonly done by counting clients. This technique leaves much to be desired, as the number of clients is too granular to accurately describe and predict load. This paper provides a much more extensive model based on Notes transactions (Remote Procedure Calls). Transactions, taken from session documents in the log.nsf, can provide a wealth of information to plan CPU utilization and network traffic. This paper provides a detail explanation, with examples, that can be adapted by any Lotus Domino email installation to improve the capacity planning process.
