New experimental results are presented that show the existence of a considerable amount of PVDF (poly(vinylidine fluoride) crystal-amorphous interphase in apparently completely noncrystalline PVDF/PMMA poly(methyl methacrylate) blends. These blends comprising two phases of PVDF interphase and mixed PVDF/PMMA amorphous region are prepared by rapid quenching from the melt into 2-methylbutane solid/liquid slurry at -160°C, and have been characterized by dielectric relaxation, DSC and IR measurements. The implications of this interphase/amorphous phase separation in these apparently noncrystalline blends is discussed.
