Patterned perpendicular and longitudinal media

Abstract

A study comparing the recording performance of perpendicular and longitudinal media was presented. The recording experiments were carried out using a static write/read tester equipped with a longitudinal giant magneto-resistive recording head. Writing and read back of individual longitudinal and perpendicular islands with periodicity that would support bit densities of up to 200 Gbit/in2 were obtained.
