Observation of Zwitterions in the Thermal Reaction of Ketenes with Carbon-Nitrogen Double Bonds

Zwitterions have been detected in thermal reactions of ketenes with imidazoles. The direct observation of the zwitterions firmly establishes that the thermal cycloaddition of ketenes with carbon-nitrogen double bonds is a two-step process. © 1982, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
