Abstract
A value for the nuclear quadrupole moment of the excited state of iron, Q57m, is obtained using published values for eQqh in the octahedral and tetrahedral sites in Y3Fe2(FeO4)3 (YIG) and in Fe2O3, along with recent values for the atomic coordinates in these compounds. The value of Q57m is definitely positive and +0.4×10-24 cm2. © 1961 The American Physical Society.
