Abstract
The seven centers surveyed here will develop research parallel-processor systems and will make commercial supercomputers available to scientists, thus fulfilling the academic community's access requirement. But there is still considerable need for innovative software development to optimize the quality of that access. A table listing the centers outlines their organization and objectives. Each of the centers is described in considerable detail.
