Molecular fluorescence in the vicinity of a nanoscopic probe

Detailed studies were performed on the influence of a sharp AFM probe tip on fluorescence from dye impregnated polystyrene nanospheres as a function of sphere radius. For the first time, a rich array of near- and far-field interference structures were encountered in the NSOM images.
