Microwave processing of thermosets
Abstract
The application of microwaves in the processing of thermosets and its composites is discussed. The complexities of microwave tool design and the ambiguities of material properties hindered the penetration of microwave ovens in thermoset processing. It is expected that the advantages of microwave processing such as shorter processing time, uniformity of heating of large parts made of low thermal conductivity materials, decreased processing cost, space savings, superior product and increased modeling capabilities. Increased understanding through controlled experiments will lead to wider use of microwave in thermoset processing.
