Magnetization of ultrathin (100) Co films deposited on Cu/Si(100)
Abstract
Ultrathin Co films, 5 and 10 Å, sandwiched between Cu or Pd have been deposited on (100) and (111) Si using Cu seed layers, resulting in (100) face-centered cubic (fcc) Co and mixed (111) fcc and hexagonal-closed packed (hcp) Co structures, respectively. Magnetic moments similar to bulk Co films are measured from both Co structures, indicating the integrity of the Co layers of such thicknesses. The in-plane magnetization remains to be easier than the vertical one for both structures. The relations of the results to those of thicker films and other structures are discussed. © 1992.
