Magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interactions of Tm ions in TmTe, observed by Mössbauer spectroscopy at low temperature, are similar to those for the free ion limit of the 2F 7 2 ground multiplet of Tm2+. The Tm2+ ions have symmetries that are noncubic. © 1978.
