Kinematic effects on local energy dissipation rate and local enstrophy in fluid turbulence
Abstract
A simple analysis shows that for incompressible isotropic turbulence there exists a generic inequality between the energy dissipation rate and enstrophy whenever the moment correlations of the velocity field is quasi-normal. This indicates that the cause of the difference of spatial fluctuations between the two quantities is at least in part kinematic. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.
