JOSEPHSON COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY.
Abstract
The chapter concentrates on high performance machines expected to exceed present day capabilities by over one order of magnitude. The discussion centers on one possible approach that promises to achieve the required technological breakthroughs: superconductive technology based on the Josephson effect. The author covers design problems of chips and packages; superconducting transmission lines; the basic elements of a Josephson computer; cryogenic memories; chip fabrication technology; and liquid helium refrigerators. 215 refs.
