IMAGE/TEXT RETRIEVAL SYSTEM ON A LAN.

Abstract

An image/text retrieval system under development is discussed in the framework of local area networks (LAN). The requirements for an advanced image/text database which are applicable to the office automation have been defined. In addition to the conventional relational database functions for text or attribute data, some functions are required for the efficient retrieval of image/text data. The system uses a writable optical disk system as mass storage and is constructed on a LAN. A user-friendly interface is designed that has an overview or browsing function of image/text data.
