Genesis and evolution of lubricant moguls
Abstract
A study on genesis and evolution of lubricant 'moguls' was performed. Emphasis was made on contributing factors such as lube thickness, lube type and substrate topography. The disks used were fabricated from glass substrates and coated with standard magnetic layers and nitrogenated carbon overcoat. It was observed that mogul formation happens very quickly with no measurable depletion of lubricant.
