Extended self-similarity of an intrinsically chaotic field
Abstract
The extended self-similarity (ESS) analysis recently proposed by Benzi et al. (Europhys. Lett., 24 (1993) 275) for turbulent-fluid flows is applied to the nonlinear dynamics of a two-dimensional lattice of damped-driven oscillators, where the dynamical state of the isolated individual oscillator is chaotic and harmonic coupling between the oscillators is assumed. We find good agreement between real fluid turbulence and this model. This suggests a universality in the “turbulence” dynamics of a real fluid and our chaotic oscillator field. © 1994 IOP Publishing Ltd.
