EVOLUTION TOWARDS AUTOMATION.
Abstract
This paper describes the evolution towards automation in manufacturing within IBM and using the Plant in Greenock as a case in point, illustrates the business, personnel and technical considerations reviewed prior to embarking on a major investment programme. Some thoughts on the future evolution of such automated processes are also provided and their effect on the man/machine liaison.
