Using a molecular-dynamics technique for the classical sine-Gordon chain, we have found that nonlinear breather modes give rise to two excitation branches. A low-frequency resonance is associated with the propagating envelope and a high-frequency peak with the internal oscillations. © 1979 The American Physical Society.
