Elimination of fabry-perot effect in 4×4 propagation matrix method and its application to liquid crystal displays
Abstract
In the conventional 4×4 wave propagation matrix method, Fabry-Perot effects occur for monochromatic light because of the inherent multiple reflections at the interfaces. However, Fabry-Perot effects are not present in the usual liquid crystal device employing an incoherent light source. We present a simple method to eliminate the Fabry-Perot effects in the 4×4 propagation matrix method. The method gives the exact optical field corre-sponding to a single reflection at the interfaces. The results are applied to modeling the electrooptics of liquid crys-tal displays without the Fabry-Perot (FB) effects. © 1994 The Japanese Journal of Applied Physics.
