Electron-hole-pair quenching of excited states near a metal
Abstract
We present a calculation of the nonradiative damping of a dipole outside a metal surface. The calculation uses a realistic surface potential for the metal conduction electrons in contrast to most earlier studies. A simple experiment is suggested to test the theoretical predictions. © 1982 The American Physical Society.
