Elastic rubber-waveguide geodesic optical deflector
Abstract
A novel technology for fabricating multimode thin-film optical components is described. Light is guided within a nonplanar transparent rubber film, following geodesics of the film surface. Controlled deformation of the surface through mechanical or pneumatic forces makes possible mode- and wavelength-independent focusing, deflecton, and switching.
