DMIX: A multifaceted environment for composing and performing computer music
Abstract
The main function of any system for aiding musical composition is support of the creative process. Yet little is known about the inner process of musical creativity. This paper explains the rationale and principal design aspects of DMIX, an extensible musical composition and performance environment designed with special attention to supporting the creative process. DMIX adopts an approach which is more phenomenological and less formalistic than existing systems, and thus also includes some features not found elsewhere.
