DIRECT DRIVE ACTUATOR FOR CARTESIAN ROBOTS.

Abstract

Direct drive actuators offer many advantages for robotics. The direct motion device discussed in this paper is a variable reluctance linear motor. The properties and control of the device and an associated feedback position sensor are discussed. Results pertaining to a rectangular coordinate robot are mentioned.
