Contrast losses in projection displays from depolarization by tilted beam splitter coatings
Abstract
Contrast tends to decrease as 1/(numerical aperture)2 when reflective lightvalves are used in projection displays, due to skew-ray depolarization by optical coatings. We analyze and measure this phenomenon for TN-LC lightvalves, with and without corrective waveplates.
