Bulk nanocomposite magnets produced by dynamic shock compaction
Abstract
The use of shock compaction technique to produce fully densed exchange-coupled R 2Fe 14B/α-Fe (R=Nd or Pr) nanocomposite bulk magnets from melt-spun powders was investigated. The magnetic properties of the magnet was improved due to the complete densification , retention, and refinement of nanostructure. The shock-consolidated compacts of the sample was investigated using x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Hysteresis loops of the shock-consolidated powder compacts was found to exhibit single-phase behavior, and thus showing effective exchange coupling between hard and soft magnetic phases.
