Aqueous-core waveguides using a low-index nanoporous cladding

Abstract

We have observed optical waveguiding in structures made by sandwiching an aqueous layer between two low-index nanoporous films. We report characterization of these waveguides using prism coupling and scanned fluorescence excitation. © 2003 Optical Society of America.
