Anodic dissolution and oxygen evolution on binary and ternary iron-silicon alloys
Abstract
Some aspects of the anodic behaviour of iron-silicon alloy anodes are reported. The metallurgy of various alloy compositions before and after anodic exposure is given. The surface-formed films have been studied using infrared, ESCA, and other methods. The steady-state potential-current-time behaviour has been investigated. Potential oscillations, not previously reported for this system, were found. The protective mechanism of the Si is explained in terms of a model based on relative atomic volumes, while the oscillations appear to be due to anodic film breakdown. © 1983.
