Analysis and synthesis for new digital video applications
Abstract
We are witnessing today increasing use and popularity of digital video, from CDROMs, Internet to digital TV broadcast. However, as with analog video, these applications treat video as a sequence of moving images and the primary means of playback is sequential in nature, from the first to last frame. In this paper, we describe new applications of creating and using digital video and discuss new paradigms of analysis and synthesis that spearheaded these applications. We shall highlight research issues and directions in and beyond image processing on the analysis and synthesis of digital video for a new generation of applications.
