A high-power NMR probe for narrow-gap magnets

Abstract

An NMR probe is described which has the capability of providing high-power cross polarization, high-power decoupling, a variable temperature capability, and magic-angle sample spinning for spectrometers that have narrow-gap electromagnets. The cross-polarization experiments have been carried out using such a design with carbon and proton matching field of 60 kHz and high-power decoupling fields of 60 kHz. Variable temperature capability is provided by virtue of a Dewar which permits low-temperature experiments in excess of -100°C and high-temperature experiments in excess of 150°C. A magic-angle spinning apparatus exists in the literature which is applicable to such a probe. Using this magic-angle spinning device, high-resolution carbon, phosphorus, and silicon NMR spectra of solids are possible. The probe is also useful for lineshape experiments on static powder and oriented samples. © 1985.
