A criterion for a-stability of linear multistep integration formulae

Two easy-to-check conditions are given which, together, are sufficient and "almost necessary" for A-stability of linear multistep integration formulae. As an example, these conditions are applied to the two-parameter family of all two-step methods which are at least second-order accurate. © 1968 Springer-Verlag.
