A coding technique for recovery against double disk failures in disk arrays
Abstract
We present a method to encode an array of disks in such a way that the information is protected against two disk failures. The encoding requires two redundant disks and this performance is optimal. The encoding and decoding circuits require only exclnsive-OR. operations giving them an advantage over other methods involving finite field operations, like Reed Solomon codes.
