IBM Academic Awards Program

Supporting research and innovation

Our Mission

IBM PhD Fellowship, IBM Masters Fellowship and IBM Faculty Awards promote research, innovation, and the building of social, scientific, and technology-based collaboration with universities. The award programs are designed to support a spectrum of university needs: The highly competitive IBM PhD Fellowship Awards provide funding for PhD students in the final years of their PhD program, the IBM Masters Fellowship Awards provide funding for Masters students, while the IBM Faculty Awards program provides support to individual faculty in broader areas of emerging science and technology that are of significant interest to the university and IBM.

The IBM PhD Fellowship Awards are nominated through a faculty member at the university to recognize and support exceptional PhD students. The IBM Masters Fellowship Awards are nominated through a faculty member from a historically Black college or university to recognize and support exceptional Masters students. IBM Faculty Awards are nominated internally by IBMers in a spirit of collaboration with faculty and ongoing and future initiatives at universities. Both the IBM PhD Fellowship Awards and the IBM Faculty Awards are global programs. How nominators engage with the programs differ. More details can be found both in the tabs above and the links below.
